We are safely out of Vietnam, and I can now give my honest opinion. I hated Vietnam. We gave it eleven days, but it felt closer to enduring than exploring. Other countries have been difficult, crazy, or frustrating, but at least they had moments that made me say this is worth it. Vietnam, not so much. I blame the scooters. It is hard not to take it personally when drivers defy traffic laws and logic in order to run you over.
My favorite day was an afternoon in Hanoi that we spent walking around with our hostel mates. Being in Hanoi had nothing to do with the outing, it was just nice to make new friends. We even ran into a guy that we had befriended in Thailand.
We discovered coconut coffee on our last day and it was delicious. It is basically coconut ice cream with a shot of espresso poured over it. It is probably a good thing that I didn’t know about this until the end because I think I could live off these.
If I go back to SE Asia, I will go to southern Thailand or Bali. Now we move on to Australia.
Goodbye Vietnam and hello Australia!
