I read 4,500 pages of local history before arriving. Unfortunately the historian developed other hobbies and didn’t finish the narrative, but HBO took up the slack and filmed the documentary Game of Thrones here. It is really fun to walk around and see places of such historical significance.

They had great hairstyles back then, and I am doing my best to fit in.

Update: Dubrovnik was merely used as a filming location for Kings Landing and is not, in fact, the capital of Westeros. It has its own history of being an economic powerhouse with a port that rivalled Venice. Eventually it became a vassal of Austro-Hungary and then the Ottoman empire.

We had two inches of rain during our two days here. Thankfully we had a few hours of sun and clear skies to take photos.
